Euro2001 – Day 1 – FECAMP to EVREUX

“A day in Normandy”

Having now met as a group, we move to the Auberge du Fond Pitron (“restaurant” to you JB7) for lunch and initial briefing by Allan Taylor (nominated herewith). After lunch we shall drive back through Fecamp, along the harbour, South down through Normandy crossing the Seine and onto Abbeye Le Bec Hellouin (an abbey built by an Englishman) where we will stop for refreshments.

After leaving Abbeye Le Bec Hellouin we pass through Le Neuborg, and then onto Evreux.

Start 12:00. Leave the “Palais Benedictine” taking the D940 for about 3 miles towards Etretat. The lunch stop is at the Auberge du Fond Pitron, which is situated about 3/4 mile past the roundabout at St Leonard. As you drop down a hill in a wooded area, it is on the right hand side. ETA A few minutes later.

After lunch: Return to Fecamp. This time follow the road to the Port, at the Port take the right turn along the Quay until the roundabout where you leave by the D926 towards Fauville en Caux. At the end of the D926 take the D33 to the N131, and here turn right to Pont Brontonne (a bridge) across the River Seine. After crossing the Seine as you come off the bridge you will pass under a road bridge. Immediately turn right onto D65 towards Herteauville. Pass through Notre Dame Bliqueit, when you reach La Mailleraye sur Seine. The road changes to the D913 at the mini roundabout. Go straight on and turn left approx 400m onto the D65 towards Jumieqes. The route will take you along the Seine to the Ferry Terminal where the route turns to the right onto the D143. Continue on the D143 until you reach the D913. At the D913 turn left to Bourg Archard. The road will change to D313 later. At the traffic lights in Bourg Archard turn right towards the town centre and at the next traffic lights turn left onto the D91 towards Montfort sur Risle, approximately 14km/9miles. Turn left at the D130 to Montfort sur Risle, through the town towards Pont Anthou. Follow the signs for Abbeye Le Bec Hellouin, turning left approximately 300m after the traffic lights. We will stop for refreshments at Abbeye Le Bec Hellouin. On leaving Abbeye Le Bec Hellouin , take the D39 to Le Neuborg. Be careful at the crossroads shortly after leaving Le Bec Hellouin. Continue straight on to St Martin du Parc, straight over at N138, and then through a Ford! Don’t worry water flowing over smooth metalled road..!!! Make sure tyres are well inflated, as you’ll float better. Turn left at the water fountain in Le Neuborg and then through the centre of town. Fork right at the end of the main street to Quittebeuf. At the roundabout turn right and then left after 100m onto the D39 Quittebeuf. This is about 9km/6miles. Stay on the D39 towards Evreux and join the N13. Arrive in Evreux on the N13. Turn right at Hotel Mercure (exhibition hall on left) and go straight on at the next two sets of traffic lights. Go past a Total Garage, get in the right hand lane and turn right at the next lights. Observe the hotel sign in the flowerbed on the right. The road goes through a wooded section for 3km/2miles. Go through the next set of traffic lights (stop if on red) and the Hotel Kyriad is immediately on the right. ETA 18:30
