Euro2001 – Day 1 – LE HAVRE to FECAMP

Monday 30th July 2001

“The first morning”

The start of the tour sees people arriving from several different directions - principally from Le Havre and Calais. The Le Havre group will get out of the port at about 7.00am and make their way, via a coffee stop in Le Tilleul, to a Benedictine Monastry (“Palais Benedictine”) in Fecamp at about 09:30. There they will pass the morning and wait for the Calais group who get there a little later. Together, at midday, we will then make our way to a lunch stop at a restaurant which is 4km from Fecamp with adequate parking and a menu we can choose from on the day. The owner and chef is a car enthusiast and is currently renovating a 1927 Samson, which is a right hand drive drop head about the size of an Austin 7.

After lunch it’s onward to the hotel at Evreux. This day is quite light due to the early start. We will also meet our Ratrace (Caterham north London but they'll try to fix anything) support van and mechanic who should have Gavin, our very own white van man, with them.

Directions: Mike James.

  • Start 07:00.
  • Leave Le Havre terminal. Go straight on at 1st roundabout, then straight on at traffic lights.
  • Turn left at the next traffic lights and follow signs through Le Havre for Etretat which becomes the the D940 and takes you all the way to Etretat.
  • At Le Tilleul, stop for coffee in a bar on the right in the centre of the village.
  • After coffee, continue on the D940 to Fecamp.
  • Meet the other group at the “Palais Benedictine”, which is just off the harbour. You can’t miss it, it’s very well signposted.
  • ETA 09:30.
